Every February 28th, the people of Andalusia celebrate Andalusia Day, which commemorates the historical event that took place on that day in the year 1980 when a referendum was passed that decided Andalusia would form its own autonomous community of Spain. For Andalusia and Spain as a whole, that day in history marked a before and after, and from that point on, Andalusia Day is celebrated as a community holiday. All of us here at Greensuites Coffee Restaurant would like to celebrate this momentous day by doing what we know best: offering the finest Mediterranean food to our clients.
A Healthy Way to Start the Day
In Andalusia, it’s common knowledge that one of the best ways to start the day off with a bit of energy is to enjoy a full breakfast. We also use products that are of the best quality and variety which gives you all of the energy you need to take on your morning. Bread, extra virgin olive oil, fresh tomato and Serrano ham are the four key components of a typical complete Andalusian breakfast. However, each person can enjoy their breakfast in the way they choose, here are a few of the optional alternatives:
- Bread and Extra Virgin Olive Oil
This is one of the most typical breakfast options and is a common daily breakfast for most people living in Andalusia. The olive oil, otherwise known as “liquid gold” on account of its numerous nutritional properties, is drizzled over toast with just a pinch of salt, if desired. As a drink option, many people enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice to complete their breakfast.
In fact, Bread and oil are so symbolic of Andalusia, for that very reason many people celebrate the 28th of February with a breakfast using both of those ingredients. Simple but filling, healthy and appetizing. One of the most well-known bread types is called a mollete in Spanish. This white bread roll, originates from the village of Antequera in Malaga. Of course, this is an ideal option to start your day by enjoying the very best Mediterranean flavours that Andalusia has to offer.
- Bread, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Crushed Tomato
If you want to enhance your breakfast just a bit more than simply oil and bread, feel free to top your tasty mix of Andalusian flavours with crushed tomato. This breakfast is packed with nutrients and vitamins that will help you start your day with energy. This isn’t a heavy breakfast either, which makes it ideal to enjoy before heading off to work, to study or exercise. There are many alternatives to accompany your toast, but we recommend a doses of milk and a bit of sunshine…sounds good, right?
- Bread, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Crushed Tomato and Serrano Ham
So, if after that you still feel like adding more on, we recommend the mouth-watering combination of bread, extra virgin olive oil, crushed tomato and last but certainly not least, the special Andalusian touch of Serrano ham. This is, of course, the most complete Andalusian breakfast offering an abundant amount of vitamins and nutrients to give you the energy you need to take on what the day brings. Nutritionally speaking, this option is varied, as the Vitamin C found in the tomato helps your body to better absorb the iron from the Serrano Ham, as well as, the healthy fatty acids in the olive oil. You’re guaranteed a delicious breakfast that you’ll enjoy up until every last crumb.
